Brian is Big News...

In today's Guardian he picks his ten favourite modern Irish crime novels.

There are also plenty of links to buy Bleed A River Deep. Only modesty prevents Brian from including himself on the list, but if you've yet to encounter Inspector Devlin you have a treat in store.

Brian, you are big news and so is Inspector Devlin. You know you've hit the big time when you're the author promoting other authors. Well deserved, and congratulations on Bleed a River Deep.

Ditto what Ann said ... plus I'd be lying when I said I wasn't selfishly rubbing my hands with glee in the hopes I can coat-tail onto my fellow MNWers' successes.

Brian is a fantastic writer.

Thanks for linking to this, Tim. Any of the books on this list are worth reading and Declan Burke's site is a superb blog/resource which has been very supportive of MNW writers (not just Irish ones either).

Thanks too, Ann, Mags and Eliza for your kind comments; they are very much appreciated.

Outstanding! This is a good week/month/year for MNW!

I don't know how you do it, Brian. A successful and prolific crime writer, a busy teaching job, and busy home-life. I'm feeling like an underachiever here!
You're definitely the benchmark for how to keep the writing going - just hope I find that balance between writing/work/increasing-family-life to keep the whole thing ticking over nicely.

Huge congrats on the great publicity, sir - you've deserved it.

Thanks Doug and Matt - much appreciated. Any pitter-patter of tiny Curran feet yet?

Not yet, Brian. Will post something when it happens though!

I might be asking for some tips soon...

how do you think the word "motel" got in there?

Yes that is curious, isn't it?

I'm not sure they broadcasted it over there in the States, but there was a great sketch show called The Fast Show, with this brilliant character called Rowley Birkin, an old QC who was regularly drunk and would talk about his adventures to an off-camera interviewer. The genius of the sketch was that other than a few chosen words, the rest of it was utterly unintelligible. For example:
"Wurl urh murdy avva muu durr wurr a poisonous monkey... ur muh hurr wurr laah and one girl was badly burnt..."

Brian - I am not a name-dropper (largely because I've hardly any names to drop) but if anyone mentions your name to me, I shall be SO pleased to be able to say "I know him" (well, I have met you once... But that also raises the interesting question - if you co-blog with someone, can you be said to know them?)

An excellent list, Brian. Good to see Ruth Dudley Edwards on it (even if she did beat me to the Last Laugh Award). Congratulations on the publication of Bleed a River Deep.

Frances' post makes me wonder what the correct name is for those you blog with - blog-buddies?

Maggie Dana said...

Len, I believe the term you want is BLUDDIES.

On second thoughts, maybe not,

Thanks Frances and Len - More than blogging together, we are MNWers together and that is something altogether more unique, I think.
