More good news for Ann!

The Personal History of Rachel DuPree is on the shortlist (of three) for the Orange New Writers' Prize (to go alongside her longlisting for the main Orange Prize).

Fingers crossed that she brings home the bacon on 3 June when the winner is announced. I'm sure Doug will be able to advise on barbecuing said pig.

Thanks for clarifying this is alongside the main Orange Prize (I see Will has done the same on the other website). So a double celebration, maybe?

Re bacon, the Bollinger Wodehouse Everyman award does (did?) feature a pig as part of the prize - but I think that it was just named after your book - I don't think you actually got to barbecue it.

How fantastic is this!

Outstanding! Yay! A good excuse for a bottle of wine and bar of chocolate, at the very least.

Ann - many, many congratulations and we'll all be keeping our fingers (and everything else) crossed that the judges make the right decision!!
Champagne definitely in order.

By 'other website', didn't mean this one by chance did you?

I meant the Bookseller site: http://www.thebookseller.com/news/81998-orange-new-writers-shortlist-revealed.html

Good to see it on the BBC website too.

Congratulations again, Ann. Fingers crossed for both ...

Thank you all. I'm astonished by the honor, and yes, it all feels surreal. The other books sound terrific, and I'm overwhelmed to be included on another list -- the MNW stable is the first list -- with such accomplished writers.

Just to let you know, Tania Hershman is one of those writers who just received a strong nod of recognition from the New Writers judges.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The best part of this is celebrating it with all of you and with the MNW staff.

Ann, this is absolutely fabulous. Will you fly over for the awards? I'll be in London that week, so I'll get to celebrate there.

Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for you.

Hog roasting is something I do know quite a bit about. I'd love nothing more to cook one or two for the whole MNW gang someday.

How fantastic is that?! Brilliant news, Ann. It's just a shame that you're all the way over there.

Will being short-listed mean buying a ticket over to ol' blighty? If so, might see if I can get a day-pass down to London - might be an ideal time for another of those MNW get togethers... what do you reckon?

I'll be in London the week of the Orange prize, so it'd be grand to have a MNW dinner. How about the night of June 5th? My book launches that day, so I'll be ready to celebrate ... and fingers crossed we'll be celebrating for (and with) Ann, too.

Sounds like a get-together opportunity. I fly back from New York on the 2nd so will probably still be on East Coast time for the rest of the week...

Wonderful news - congratulations Ann!

Sign me up for a get-together. I'm making the leap from Houston to London!!!!

I'll be in London the first week of June. I'm reading (gulp) on June 1 with the other shortlisters for the New Writers award. On June 3, there's the awards dinner --like I'm really going to be able to eat -- and on June 4 I'm hoping to attend Maggie's release party. (That came out as if Maggie is getting sprung from prison or something, but you know what I mean.)

It would be incredible to meet any of you who might be in town that week. I'll meet you anywhere.

Maggie's release party - it conjures up so many images!
Have a ball Ann and the very best of luck in June.

Many, many congratulations, Ann, and the very best of luck.

I'm late to the party here, only just picking up on this amazing double at the weekend. But many many congratulations to Ann. It really is brilliant news.
