Robert McCrum speaks!

In a laconic fashion, but it is his first day back from holiday...

Interesting point. I'll take another look. Thanks for the note.

I take it back. Look's like he will consider his position on MNW again. I'll be curious to see what he says about it - though I'm kinda hoping that he's honest about his opinion rather than be pressured into a retraction by the paper...

I'll believe in any "retraction" when I see it!

As someone who works in a vast bureaucracy (i.e. speaks with forked tongue for a living), I would note that "I'll take another look" does not commit one to a particular outcome, or indeed any outcome at all...

Oooh: I'll be watching this space.

"I'll take another look" in a note from me usually means "I'll drive past before I tell you No again". I shall be interested to see what is meant in this case.

I think the tone is rather patronising. Or maybe the equivalent of "we'll see" (ie "no") when spoken to a child. So I suppose that means I agree with Hagelrat (what a marvellous name! How did you come up with that?)
