It's just a little over a week before I come to London to celebrate the Orange Award for New Writers nomination. Last June when I came for the release of Rachel DuPree, I never thought I'd be making a return visit. What a surprise.
I've had another surprise. The Rights Department sold the book to Viking in the States. Viking plans to release it in hardback the summer or fall of 2010, and then another division of Penguin will publish it later in paperback.
I'm thrilled. I'm especially pleased Rachel DuPree follows on the heels of other MNW authors -- Len and Brian -- who have deals in the States. I have no doubt that more of us will crack the market.
We've all come a long way. Here's to each of us.

Massive congratulations, Ann. I'm certain it will be a huge hit in the US.
PS: It's touch and go whether or not I can get down to London for a MNW meet up - is anything being planned for next week?
Quite right, too! How could they possibly NOT publish Rachel after all that's happened over here?
I'm sure she'll be a big hit.
Congratulations Ann - it's been quite a year and all well deserved. It seems only fitting you should get to see the book in your hometown bookshops.
Congratulations, Ann!
I'm sure the book will be as successful in the States as it has been here.
Hearty congratulations, Ann! I have already asked a friend to buy a copy in London and bring it with him when he returns to India.
Congratulations! That's brilliant news.
Absolutely wonderful, Ann! Congratulations.

Ann, this is SUCH great news. Can't wait to give you a big hug in person.
Matt: if you're free June 4th, come to my launch party at Will's office. 5:00 pm. All are invited; just let Will know you're coming.

Really wonderful news, Ann! Many congratulations.
Thank you all for your congratulations. It'll be a thrill to have Rachel DuPree available in the States. As it is now, I feel quite removed from the experience of having a published book.
Matt, I would love to see you and at this point I don't know of anything planned for the writers to meet. Pan Macmillan is hosting a reception for Ellen Feldman (her novel is on the BIG shortlist and Picador is her publisher) and for me on June 2 at the office. This is my opportunity to meet more of the staff. There is also Maggie's launch party on the 4th which I plan to attend.
If any of you are anywhere near London, I'd love to meet you even if it's just for a few minutes. Just say and I'll be there.
How wonderful, Ann! Many, many congratulations. Here's to a big hit in the states!
Hey, Ann!
Look! You even have fans in China! (Or is that writing Japanese?)

Looking forward to the launch on 4 June! See you all there?
I'll be there. See you all then.
I've forgotten what time the launch is, and where. Could someone tell me, please? as I'd love to try and come. Also, are there any plans for anyone to met up beforehand? (Sorry to tag this onto a post about you, Ann, but it wasn't really worth a post of its own!).
