World Book Day results

Well, it's World Book Day today and the organisers of Spread the Word have announced the winner of the Search for Hidden Talent: Jonathan Trigell, author of Boy A. Congratulations, Jonathan.

Thanks to everyone who voted for me, especially my fellow MNW authors. It was a privilege to be on the shortlist.

Hard luck Eliza - it was still a wonderful - and well deserved -achievement to be shortlisted. You should be very proud.

Best

Yes, I agree with Brian. Playing with the Moon is a great read and making the shortlist (against so many others) was fantastic. You should be proud and we're proud of you.

Thank you for those generous comments! Yes--it's been a good ride. Hopefully World Book Day will run something similar next year and we'll see some more MNW authors on the list. There are so many of our books that deserve it.

Although MNW no longer stirs up controversy simply by existing, for purely selfish reasons I think it's great when MNW books make it onto shortlists for prizes. Keep it up, Eliza. (And you too, Brian.)

It's usually facile to say "you're all winners", but in this case it's true. To make such a competitive shortlist is a marvellous achievement. While all the MNW gang can take a vicarious pleasure in your success, the credit is all yours.

Now I just need to find time to read the book...

Hi Eliza

Congratulations and commiserations, but like the others have said here, it’s just brilliant that you were short-listed. It should bode well for Restitution when it comes out in September, and who knows..? Perhaps another short-listed entry in next year’s World Book Day?

Thanks, David, Tim and Matt! I appreciate the kind words.

I agree about all publicity for MNW being a nah-nah to some of the detractors.
