Faye,
Is there an online version of the magazine/article?
doug
Thanks, Faye! Did he say anything unexpected or exciting?
Alas, Doug, I don't think there's any way of getting at an online edition; I've tried before for other reasons without success.
(The magazine's website is at http://www.writersnews.co.uk/main/default.asp if you want to give it a whack.)
Doug: I don't think they do an online edition, although as David says, they do have a website if you want to check there, just in case.
David: I don't think it was anything we don't already know, to be honest - he was just talking about what MNW is and how it works and so on, which hopefully will clear up at least some of the confusion!
Ack, I just realised - there is something that would probably be of interest to Doug, namely that in the photo accompanying the article, Will is standing in front of a shelf with a few copies of Thin Blue Smoke on it. I was just thinking of the written content before, and that slipped my mind completely!
Faye, thank you for letting us know about the article. This is excellent for Will and for MNW. And for Doug!
I went to Writing Magazine's website, and we can order it once it's a back issue. I'll wait a few weeks and then will give it a try.
David (and Doug)I think Faye's right. There's nothing much in the article that most of us don't already know (except that MNW receive 100-150 submissions a week, which was certainly news to me). Good publicity, though (and for Doug's book!).
Faye,
Thanks for posting all this, and for noticing Thin Blue Smoke in the photo. I can't wait to see it, mainly because I've never seen a picture of Will. I have no idea what the guy who changed my life looks like.
drw
Doug - when you do see the pic, mentally put a pair of glasses on him, if you want to be accurate! I would scan it in and post it for you, but my scanner's got a mind of its own and I can't figure it out.
Thanks for telling us about this, Faye. Went out and bought a copy - like you said not much new there, but it still spreads the word.
...And as we're talking about Doug's book...
When I was down in London at Pan Macmillan's head office, I noticed that a plasma screen in the lobby kept flashing up Doug's book which was cool.
And my own copy of Thin Blue Smoke was delivered this morning! Doubly cool!
See, this is why I feel so damn isolated from all the fun stuff, stuck as I am over here in the middle of the U.S. of A.
('Hope you enjoy the book, Matt. Though it may not be your cup of tea...)
