February 15th. The last post

Two weeks to go now, and I for one have no idea where Browns is! So - please - where exactly is it? and do we have to book? and if so, how many of us are there going to be? We said 1pm - is that still ok for everyone? And (lastly) where are all those new MNWers who have yet to make themselves known? Please join us if you can. Getting everyone together isn't easy, and this may be your last chance for some time...
(I promise this is positively my last post on the subject).

I might be able to make it. I'm just going to check the trains fit as London is a bit of a distance from Cumbria. But where is Browns? Directions for a person who does not know London from one who does would be much appreciated.

OK: that link won't work.

Just google on 'Browns Charing Cross map' and you should get half a dozen or so maps.

It's near Leicester Square tube.

Definitely coming, but I know nothing about Browns. Is Len our expert?

I'm still coming! In fact, I'm meeting Neil Ayres in town and then he'll steer me in the right direction given my amazing ability to get lost anywhere - so both Neil and I are coming!

Browns is staggering distance from Goldsboro Books (trust me, I have experience of this...). It's just around the corner from Cecil Court, less than 100 hundred yards away. Should have plenty of tables free for Monday lunch too.

I am definitely coming - see you all there at 1. Or are we meeting outside beforehand? And are we booking a table since there are quite a number of us? Too many questions, sorry..

So that's

Matt
Deborah
Eliza
Len
Tim
Aliya
Alis
Neil

ANyone else? That's eight so far.

Dave Budd is coming (you might remember Dave from Len's Christmas meet up). So that makes 9 unless Brian is coming too?

I'm coming, Eliza!

Forgetting you, Frances, is like forgetting the bride and groom. I think it's implied that you're coming as you've spent all this time setting it up!

So that's 10, possibly 11 if Brian is attending.
Should be good...

On a side note, Dave Budd and I are hanging around for the evening too, so if any of you are still in London we can meet up later for drinks if you want...

OK - it looks like up to 11 of us including Deborah and Brian. Anyone else? I'll contact Brown's and book a table for 12 people (to allow for a last minute addition) at 13.00 on 15 Feb. I'll let them know a day or so before exactly how many we'll be.

Many thanks, Len!

Thanks, Len!

And apologies to Frances for leaving her out. As I was typing the list my mind was telling me there was something important missing!

Yes - thanks very much, Len. And apology accepted, Eliza. I like being described as "something important" (shades of Winnie the Pooh?).

OK - table now booked at Browns St Martin's Lane (near Charing Cross) for 13.00 15 Feb. Please let me have any updates on attendance via email or the blog. See you there ...

Who is it who keeps posting and deleting!

Hi Eliza... It's not me. Honest.

My thanks to Len and Frances for getting this sorted out. All I need to arrange now is a Sherpa to carry the pile of books for you lot to sign when I get down there. Me thinks it will be sometime before we all get together again so I want to get my signed copies in now...

Frances Garrood said...

Ok, Eliza - two of them were mine. One was because I called you Alis (and I didn't think you'd like that - no offence, Alis). I've forgotten about the other. But the third remains a mystery, so someone else will have to own up to that!

Hi there everyone...new MNWer here...pleased to meet you all :) I'm actually meant to be in London that week so I might pop in for a cuppa and say hello to some fellow writers - as long as I'm not going to be gatecrashing... obviously I've not met any of you as yet!

Welcome, Ciara. I'm delighted you've joined the blog. Have fun at Brown's.

Frances Garrood said...

Ciara - lovely to hear from you. Do please come and join us all for lunch if you can. As you may have gathered, we rarely manage to get together, and I think this may be the biggest MNWers gathering for some time. Could you let us know, please, if you can make lunch, as Len is booking the table. Really hoping to see you there.

Len Tyler said...

Ciara - hi! Very much hope you can make it.

Alis said...

Yes, Ciara, come for lunch if you can - you're not gatecrashing at all!

Ciara said...

Thanks for being so welcoming :) I shall see you all there!

Eliza Graham said...

I thought it might be someone very shy who wanted to come to the lunch and then got cold feet and decided not to!

is anyone going to be at Charing Cross station some time before 1pm on 15th? Perhaps under the clock (is there a clock?)? To help me (and perhaps anyone else) find Browns? Because the word 'lost' was invented just for me, and I'd like not to get lost if possible...

Please?

Tim Stretton said...

Frances - I'll be coming through.

I'm not sure if there is a clock, but this station map tells me there's a Costa coffee http://www.networkrail.co.uk/documents/For%20Passengers/Station%20Maps/4498_Charing%20Cross%20Station%20Map.pdf (No 15 on the map).

How does that sound. I'm not sure how far Browns is from the station. Say 12-30 to be on the safe side?

Frances Garrood said...

Thanks, Tim. That sounds great. I used to say I'd lost my sense of direction, until I realised that you can't lose that which you never had. See you at 12.30.

Eliza Grham said...

Here is another link, which will hopefully work, with a map showing Browns in relation to Charing Cross Road:

http://www.browns-restaurants.co.uk/details-coventgarden.php

If you don't appear we'll send out tracker dogs with brandy.

Deborah Swift said...

I've booked a train, so unless it breaks down I'll be there. Looking forward to it loads.

Tim Stretton said...

If anyone wants to get lost in company rather than individually, Frances and I are meeting outside Costa coffee at Charing Cross station at 12-30.

With Frances' sense of direction and my inability to work my GPS, a scenic route is guaranteed.
