The Gathering (part 4)

We seem to have a date, and, so far, a respectable seven (if we include Len. Come on, Len. Of course you can make it) - Aliya, Tim, Alis, Eliza, Matt, Len, Frances - for lunch on Friday 16th January. Of course, it will be lovely if more can make it. but I think seven makes it worth doing. Does everyone agree? And I suggest Len gets to choose the venue as his reward for joining us. You can't say fairer than that.

I'm on!

And just to warn Len that we will come to his office if he doesn't come to the restaurant.

'Nuff said.

Flattered though I am that you re all happy to go to any greasy spoon just for the pleasure of my company, I still can't promise.

Let me explain. Before I became a chief executive I had assumed one of the perks of the job was a three hour lunch break. Unfortunately not, these days, for me or any senior manager. In the event of a crisis or clash of meetings, your lunch break is the first thing your secretary scrubs from the diary. I’m not complaining, but it makes me an unreliable lunch guest on a weekday.

So, thanks, but I’m going to have to leave the organisation and choice of venue to Matt and Frances. (I did make a suggestion sometime ago if you are all stuck for ideas.) I’ll get there if I can (and if I am still invited). If I can’t make it, then as a penance I promise to organise another gathering later in the year.

Good stuff! Thanks for doing this Frances. On the gathering side of things, maybe we should offer this out to not just MNWers. I say this because the likes of Neil Ayres, Ian Hocking and Dave Budd are known within the community by quite a few of the MNWers and have been big supporters of the imprint (and I'm sure David Headly would have a chat and a drink before the launch at his bookshop that evening too).
Also, would it wrinkle any noses if I suggested to Will Atkins that if he wants to take advantage, publicity-wise, of having so many MNWers in one place at any one time, then he should do so? Or do we want to keep it strictly as a get-together?

Matt - I think the more the merrier. And there must be some new writers (eg people who have just had their first novels accepted by MNW) who might like to join us. And of course, if Len can leave his Very Important Job for just ten minutes, I'm sure it would make our day. Getting Len to come has become something of a challenge. Perhaps we could kidnap him (in the name of MNW publicity, of course).
