Just an idea

I am visiting London (26 June- 4 July) once again since the first time I was here for the launch of the MNW imprint. Naturally, revisiting the city carries its own brand of nostalgia. I was wondering aloud if there was a book launch that coincided with my visit, so that I could be part of another MNW event. Frances came up with a suggestion that is really tempting. She felt we could meet anyway, a date, place, time that is convenient. Naturally we need sufficient number of people to make this possible. I was thinking 29 June is a Sunday, would that make it convenient for everyone? I am on vacation so I can make time on anyday. The rest of the details like venue and time will have to worked out by someone more familar with London then I am. But what say others to the idea of meeting for lunch, on 29 June, a sort of literary gathering in real space to corroborate with the virtual space we step in oh so often? Needless to say, all past present and wannabe MNW writers and kindren souls are welcome. I am sure we will have much to share. Please let me know. It is already sounding feasible.

I think I could make that, depending on trains (Sundays are the days when they mend tracks, divert you by bus(es), find the wrong sort of leaves etc etc). It would be good to meet up if enough of us can manage it.

Suroopa - this is a wonderful idea but I'm afraid that that weekend won't work for me. Until the middle of July when exams, work experience and all the shenanigans which accompany the end of school for both offspring and pupils is done with, I'm not a free woman! But I shall be envious if you get together enough MNWers to make this viable...

Just got back from holiday to see this post - what a great idea! But unfortunately I'm busy that weekend visiting friends. Am very annoyed not to be able to make it.

Hi Suroopa,

That is indeed a wonderful idea. Unfortunately as I live at the other end of England it's not likely that I will be able to make it down to London, although I will of course comment here if things change. Sad to say that it has to be a provisional no from me!

Sadly I'm already double booked with children's school/other activities! It's a bit like it is with Alis for me: most of my free time is during the week in school hours, when I'm not working; or in the holidays. I'm so sorry about this, as I'd have love to have made this meeting. Boo hoo. We want all the gossip, OK?

I'm afraid I can't make this one--the weekend rail service to London from where I live is one long engineering work, and unfortunately I have other commitments.

But I hope those of you who do make it have a great time!

Hi, Suroopa

Events have also conspired against me attending - a shame, 'cos it's a great idea.

Apart from the odd book-launch here and there, there hasn't been that many opportunities to meet up as a group (I was telling a friend last night, meeting up with the other writers on the imprint is a highlight of being with MNW).

If there's alternative date in the near or far future, please let me know.

Best

I think a weekend seems tough. I was following the Indian schedule of only being available on a Sunday! I am there from 27 June to 4 July in London. Its the touristy part of my visit, so barring the day of departure we can meet on any other day. I am suggesting 2 June as a possibility - just a shot in the dark. What will make things a trifle difficult for me is that I am leaving India this Friday (13 June) and may not have easy access to the internet, so I cannot quite play around with dates once I am there in UK. Another time maybe. But I have saved up through the year to go book buying, and I have a list of MNW books I intend to pick up. Are there bookstores that give a discount? Any suggestions?
