Introducing David Jackson.

I just wanted to take a minute to let folks know that another first novel, Pariah, has been published by Macmillan. I'm not quite certain whether it's been published by MNW or the main Macmillan imprint. I've corresponded some with its author, David Jackson, and he tells me he submitted to MNW, but according to Amazon, and to the copyright page of the galleys I got, it's simply a Macmillan book.

Either way, his book is out, it's a first novel, and it's a good one.

He has a website here.

And a blog here.

That's all I got.

Thanks for posting this, Ryan, and congratulations to David Jackson. My understanding is that this is an MNW book, though it does, as you say, bear the regular Macmillan logo.

Sounds interesting - will check it out!

Not as interesting as Daniel Craig on Len's street, though. Sorry.

Just seen this. Thanks, Ryan!
Yes, I submitted Pariah through MNW, but it has appeared as a Macmillan book (do other books still appear under MNW?) Does that mean I can join your gang now?

Aliya - Daniel Craig is the uncle of my daughter's friend, was brought up where I live, and occasionally pops back here. Does that make me a little bit more interesting?

David, I hate to be so utterly see-through, but given my Daniel Craig obsession, the answer must be yes.

I would have bought your book anyway, if that helps.

It softens the blow, Aliya.
Buy a few more copies and I might even put in a good word for you with Daniel's niece :)

You're not in Marketing, are you, David?

One of our neighbours was planning to lure Daniel Craig into her house using chocolate cake. I don't know if it worked, but we haven't seen her (or Daniel Craig) since last night.

Welcome, by the way, David. Hope to meet up soon. Are you doing Bristol Crimefest this year?

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm not doing Crimefest, but I am doing Harrogate. Hope to meet some of you there.

Oh, congratulations, David Jackson! How intriguing about the exact imprint detais

Oh and of course you can join our gang! If you can be in London on 7 April you can come to a lunch we're organising for a general gossip, erm, I mean writers' networking session.

Hi, Eliza. I'm not sure I can get down to London on the 7th, but I'd love to meet each of the MNWers at some point in the future. I've been following this blog for some time, and the impression I get is that you're a wonderful bunch of authors.

On the imprint: the Macmillan site lists only two MNW books that appeared in 2010, the last in June of that year ('The Lady's Slipper'). Amazon doesn't throw up any others either. Perhaps being published under Macmillan (such as in my case) is becoming more the norm. If I remember, I'll ask Will.

Welcome David, and congratulations on your new book!

(We are indeed a wonderful bunch of authors! Looking forward to meeting you.)

David Jackson said...

Thanks, Frances.
I've never encountered a group so devoid of schadenfreude and gluckschmerz, to pinch a phrase from your excellent blog.

I think we support each other, David. I for one have been through some difficult (writing) times, and I honestly don't know what I would have done without my fellow MNWers. Family and friends are wonderful of course, but only another writer really understands!

I agree. The thrill of being published is indescribable, but there's always the anxiety of never knowing how long the dream will last. I hope your latest book works out well for you.

David, welcome aboard and many congratulations on the publication of your first novel. You're off to a tremendous start that includes great reviews and a deal with a German publisher. Enjoy all of this and put aside worries about sales and what might happen next. You're with a top-notch publisher regardless of imprint. This time in your life is magical.

David Jackson said...

Ann, you're absolutely right. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to put things in perspective the way you just have. I have a lot to be thankful for - not least landing amongst the MNWers.

Welcome, David!

Pariah looks very interesting and will go on my ever-increasing pile of "stuff to read"...

David Jackson said...

Thanks, Tim.
I couldn't ask for a warmer reception than the one I'm getting here at MNW.

We get together a couple of times a year, so perhaps next time.

Everyone is as nice in the flesh as they are online, but not as tall.

Speak for yourself, Tim.
